Xin Rui’s Experience (Facilitator) [he/him]

Having facilitated multiple runs of WoTS, I can confidently say that facilitating for WoR is a different ball game altogether. Not easier or harder, just different.

Where WoTS participants run into external walls, and learn to embrace and assert personal truths despite rules imposed on them by society at large, WoR participants need to learn to move past that, and very quickly run into internal walls, where they are only limited by their imagination. And that, I think, is a much more difficult challenge to overcome. We all believe we have hard limits, both physically and mentally, but how often are we given the time and the space to actually push those limits safely?

Watching these four participants evolve over the course of the…well, course, was an immensely rewarding experience for me as well, because I was able to explore my own limits alongside them. I recall running into the same walls they ran into when I was a participant, and I find new walls that need to be pushed against, if not broken down. It’s the cliche that teaching others often lets you learn better as well, and well, it’s a cliche because it’s true.

I am excited to see how this batch of participants continue to grow, both personally and professionally.
