Part 1: 5 Sessions (Moving and Playing with Specificity and the Unknown)
There are no instructions: find your own place.
During these 5 sessions, participants will be introduced to the concept and practice of moving and playing with specificity. Participants will be encouraged to use their imagination and memories as they move and play, so that the personal would be introduced into the space.
For these 5 weeks, participants will also be often “thrown into the unknown”, so that they have to find their own ways of moving and playing. What if we begin without instructions? What if we start singing? Who knows? :D
Learning how to play is about learning how to deal with the unknown. You’ll be challenged, and you’ll also have lots of fun!
Part 1 will end with a creative task.
Part 2: 5 Sessions (Being Open to Contradictions and Change)
Hold your place, and listen: be prepared to shift as well.
During these 5 sessions, participants will be working with their personally-crafted choreography: a repeatable sequence of actions (or sounds) mapped onto a specific sequence of memories (real or imagined). This sequence is crafted from the impulses of each participant’s personal needs. Participants will then work as a pair or a team to allow choreographies crafted by others to affect them. Perhaps, there will be a change in speed or in the quality of the movement, or perhaps one individual may decide to “steal” a movement from another. Who knows?
Participants will finally work in pairs or threes to come up (with movement and dialogue/sound-driven) “conversations”. The “conversations” will be devised from the impulses of each participant’s personal needs. When faced with a partner, each participant will have to listen and shift accordingly, so that a productive “dance/dialogue/conversation” between two unique individuals can take place.
Learning how to play is not about “going crazy”. It is about listening to the other person as well, and with personal boundaries in place, you’ll be able to have fun and build enriching relationships.
Part 2 will end with a private/public Movement and Play event.
